Autogyro / Comparison to other machines
The Autogyro has specific characteristics that make it different compared to other aircraft. Comaring the specific technique of the Autogyro to a Fixed-wing or a Helicopter results in the following.
An Autogyro compared to a Fixed-wing:
- has no stall speed which results in slower flights possible
- has a shorter take-off and zero landing distance
- is safer (specially at low altitude and slow speed)
- has higher weather limits (wind op to 40 kts)
- has lower investment and operating costs
- is easier to transport by road
An Autogyro compared to a Helicopter:
- is easier to handle
- is safer at low altitude (smaller deadmans curve)
- has a smaller noise signature
- has a significant less CO2 pollution footprint
- has (much) cheaper investment and operating costs
- can land on water
- can only hover into strong wind
- is safer until the helicopter enters autorotation, then both are equally safe
- is easier to transport by road
