Government / Fire Fighting

The Autogyro is well suited for Fire Fighting tasking. Its long endurance and ability to fly low and slow, its safety profile and easy handling characteristics combined with the low investment and operating costs and its low CO2 and noise footprint make it a perfect aircraft for various Fire Fighting operations.

The tasks of the Fire Fighting Department are many and diverse.  Some countries maintain an area watch in dry and warm seasons. For this task often fixed-wing and/or helicopters are used.

A study presented to the Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission in Australia showed that for the Fire watch for Bush fires in New South Wales (NSW) the comparison between the use of Robinson Helicopters or the Autogyro showed a factor 8 in favour of the Autogyro. Either the same area could be watch for an 8th of the cost with an Autogyro or for the same money an 8 times larger area could be watched.

The advantages of the use of and Autogyro for Fire Fighting tasks like Area observation are substantial. If the Autogyro is equipped with an IR sensor this increases even more.
